Here's a roof shot... This shows two antennas on an SD38. The one towards the back is a firecracker style antenna. The one to the left is a "top hat" style antenna. It's hard to tell, but the top hat portion might actually be just the groundplane disc of the original antenna, and the can is actually an EOT antenna they mounted on the old disc. This is the control stand inside EJ&E SD38 #670. The box above the green brake lever, is the Motorola Spectra radio. The black box that's to the right of the radio, and over the gauges, is the end of train device receiver. Photo by Neal 3/01

This shot shows a couple different types of antennas on the cab roof of #670. The one towards the back is the firecracker style antenna. That antenna is used for the voice radio. The short one to the right is a small can type antenna, which is used for the end of train device receiver. Photo by Neal 3/01

This is the control stand on a completely rebuilt SW1000 that was sitting outside the old EJ&E Car Shops in Joliet, IL. You can see the small radio on the upper left. Jim from Oregon informed me this is a Kenwood TK760-HGK. Photo by Neal 12/01

This shot shows the completely rebuilt Engineer's side of the cab in the lead unit. You can see the Spectra radio has been mounted flush with the control stand. There's also a receptacle for a David Clark headset on the front of the control stand for the Engineer, and a third headset receptacle next to the handset for passengers. Photo by Neal 6/01
